Finally got out again, just a hike today though. Snow Mountain is in the Cowiche Canyon Conservency trail system, close to my house. We did a 6.5 mile loop with about 1300 feet in elevation. We carried our backs at about 15 lbs. Super windy and frigid with the winds coming off the Cascades. But the wild flowers we’re starting to pop and it was fun. Felt great.
We went for a short hike and over night trip to Ancient Lakes near Quincy WA. Only about 3 miles each way. The hike in is through basalt rock formations with columner formations everywhere. The lakes are pothole type lakes from the glacial floods and the water is non potable even after filtering so we had to bring all we needed. We brought 6 liters, but needed 7! It got very cold at night, upper 20s but we did fine. Jedha cut her pad and licked it all night long. I put a sock on her foot, but she’d eventually get that off and lick it. Drove me crazy. She was ok to walk out though which I was thankful for. Need to bring bootys just in case. All in all a good first hike of 2021.
Hope to hike a part of the JMT this year as consolation for having to cancel my 2020 AT they hike until 2022
Secured a sobo pass starting in Inyo! Still holding on to hope that we’ll get the golden ticket
As I prepare to conquer Mount Whitney, I’m slowly conditioning and gathering the correct gear to climb the mountain. The process is extremely exciting and motivational! I’m looking forward to the day I actually get to climb the mount. I’m aiming for a climb in August 2021!
