Day 143
15.5 miles full pack to Wiley Shelter. Started off with a great breakfast sandwich from the deli, then we headed out. The trail today was honestly the best it’s been. Even with a full pack it was very manageable and I felt pretty good about myself. We did pass Nuclear Lake today. I realized the water from the stream I got from near there was runoff from it before I drank it so I dumped it, just to be safe. Then I was walking along and was like “blueberries!!!” And popped some in my mouth and then was like “this definitely is too close to the lake.” I am hoping maybe I’ll grow an extra leg so I can hike faster. I was trying to get to the Malaysian food truck before it closed at 330 and was so happy that I did. The food was great and I tried Malaysian coffee! Hiking outta there was a mile through pastures which was completely uncovered and in the sun and really took it out of me but even after a rest I was feeling overall good and made it to camp at a reasonable time. A good crowd was here-Fun Fact, IKEA and Smokie, Ambassador, Father Time, Blue Jeans and Rocket. The privy was beyond scary-I was intrigued but since everyone else said it was awful I didn’t even look in. Will thought it might be spiders or frogs-those are certainly different and that he wasn’t sure was very concerning. One guy said “when you have to go, you have to go” but then noped right on out just a few seconds later. Of the 8 folks staying there, including 3 combat vets, no one used it.
