Day 76
12.4 to tent at Sarver Hollow Shelter. Today was awful, no real redeeming qualities. Steep ups without switchbacks. Rocky trail. Mud everywhere. No views. Ending the day at a shelter 0.4 off trail with a steep downhill. I did listen to Becoming Odysss by Jennifer Pharr Davis. Steady recommended it and is listening too so we have a little AT book Club. It’s about her AT thru hike and it is fun to have intimate knowledge of the places she is talking about. Listening to her describe places like Unaka Mountain and Cherry Gap Shelter, the area north of Roan Mountain I know EXACTLY where that is. I did have unkind words when she said “the area north of Pearisburg is surprisingly rocky.” Given that is exactly where we are right now, that’s an understatement.
