Day 36

Written on Mar 31st 2025 at 4:00 AM

8.4 miles to Roaring Fork Shelter. Today it rained almost all day. We had a little later start getting out of camp-no one wants to hike in the rain. Kellie was an absolute peach and had picked up some things that are hard to get in town-liquid IV and bars and carnation instant breakfast, so we picked those up from her and she headed out home in her nice heated car. Steady and I headed up to Max Patch. When we started it was just raining. When we got up to the top, it was pouring and thundering and some lightening. It was definitely not the safest choice to be up there, but the only way out is through. The rain did clear a little and there were some super cool clouds happening. I also learned that even when you think your feet are soaking wet, they still can get wetter. And gaiters don’t protect your feet when you are ankle deep in puddles. We got to camp early and had lots of time to hang out in the shelter and relax. We put on warm dry clothes and just sat and planned out the next days after hot springs. Definitely not looking forward to putting cold and wet clothes on tomorrow, but at least it should be sunny!
