Day 25
13.1 miles to Fontana Dam Shelter. We initially gonna go to the cable gap shelter which was 6 miles in, I went pretty quick (for me anyways) and made it in 4 hours, and there was bad weather coming so we wanted to get down off the mountain and decided to push to the next shelter. This is known as the Fontana Hilton-lots of space, flush toilets and shower and water fountain makes it a step above other shelters. This is the farthest I have ever hiked and I got in at 8pm, but didn’t have to use my headlamp. My feet and ankles were not happy about it. We hiked through tiny pellet like snow, sleet and high winds that made the snow go horizontal. But I made it! I also saw trillium flowers coming down the mountain which was very exciting. Spring is on the way.
