Day 114

Written on Jun 28th 2021 at 4:56 PM

6/27/21 Hiked from Clark’s Ferry Shelter to a stealth campsite off the trail. Carried lots of water as there was none on the trail except at Peter’s Mountain Shelter down 0.3 miles which included 300 rock steps. There was trail magic water which we refilled from plastic jugs after crossing PA 225. Trail was mostly flat with some rocks but not bad. Hot weather with nice views at Table Rock and Kinter View. Guthook mentioned other previous hikers seeing lots of poisonous snakes with copperheads and rattlesnakes at Kinter View we saw none. Saw Turkey Vultures riding the air lifts.

Day 114

6/28/21 Paula felt there was a bear at the campsite overnight banging on things perhaps moving her bear canister around. She was too afraid to take a look out of her tent. I didn’t hear anything and no evidence of a bear or other animal being at the campsite overnight. What she heard is unknown. Awoke felt good climbed down the trail to active spring and collected water. Crossed road PA 325 across Clark’s creek. Slight climb but smooth trail but she was exhausted and really couldn’t continue. So we reviewed options and unfortunately she needed to leave the trail. We were both disappointed. It was quite hot near 100 degrees. Called shuttle driver who picked us up and took us back to her car At Duncannon. There was trail angel/magic with a beer and soda at parking lot at PA 325 by hikers mom I knew which was appreciated.Paula was kind enough to stay overnight at a hotel so I can replan my next plan and get back on the trail tomorrow.
