Day 111
6/25/21 Walked from the Darlington shelter thru woods and fields. Weather was sunny and hot in the open. No available water until reaching the Cove Mountain Shelter and it’s associated spring. This was at least 0.3 miles off the trail and steep drop which I had to climb up to get back to the trail. Remained on the ridge which was frequently quite rocky which made for so much rather slow hiking despite it being relatively flat. Got to hawk rock which had great views of Dunccanon Pennsylvania. The trail turn down words rather steeply but then a reroute went somewhat uphill until reaching the valley floor. I had planned to go another 4 miles or so which would’ve included crossing the Susquehanna River and then climbing about 900 feet. Paula is leaving her car at the Doyle Hotel and meeting me down the trail by taking a shuttle so I was tired and decided to stay at the Doyle hotel. Had an early dinner there. Hotel is 110 years old and certainly looks it. For $25 I got my own room with communal showers. It’s kind of famous in these parts. Note on the ridge I saw a large eastern rat snake cross the trail. On the next few days they are supposed to be a large amount of rattlesnakes and copperheads on the rocks. Went to a local laundromat. Looking forward to meeting Paula tomorrow.
