Day 5
3/10/21. Piper was well behaved , last night slept in the tent without problems. made friends, Someone had a young large Yellow Lab that Piper played with. Hung food on cables at campsite. Takes forever to set up tent and sleeping stuff. Cooked dinner got up early but relatively cold. Piper barked at a few people she meet the day before in the AM. Frustrating but they understood. Mostly college age kids very nice and mature. My kids are older than them, I wish Hannah and Sarah were with me as well as Michele. A few older people were one nice older couple. Hiking is easy compared to NH. A few young people have gotten off the trail due to blisters on their feet. They will plan to get back on with new shoes, Fortunately I haven’t had that problem. Hiked up over blood mountain which is over 4000 feet tall but again it’s not difficult hiking. Beautiful views there’s an old stone cabin at the top and even a privy. Hiked down to Neels gap Where there is a large store in Mountain crossings and completely re-supplied. They have everything. Actually they cooked a frozen pizza for me. Unfortunately the charger for my phone could not be recharged for some reason so I had to buy a new charger which needs to be charged and therefore decided I really can’t get back on the trail until I have a working charger. I was talking to the front staff at Mountain Crossing and a gentleman came by and offered me A ride to his cabins called Misty Mountains Where I have my own cabin with a shower even a TV small kitchen for $110. Tomorrow he will pick me up at 7 AM and drive me back to the AT to resume my hike. Feeling better about things as this is the first time I’ve re-supplied which is something totally new to me. Piper is sleeping on the floor now bought some dog food for her will try and get my chargers going and resume my hike tomorrow morning hiking isn’t the issue it’s rather easy but it’s the resupplying and setting up camp and breaking it down every day takes so much time. I have deadlines to keep to meet Michele at the southern end of the Smokies Which I would like to keep but there’s so much unknown. Fortunately the weather is been fantastic with warm temperatures probably pushing 60° during the day however some rain is coming in. Hopefully I can get these post published as well as the pictures through this app
