Oh shit. What have I got myself into? That pretty much sums up how I felt this morning. Before taking me to the airport, Dave got up extra early and had coffee with me. This is our usual routine and has been for a long time. It's our time to reconnect during our busy lives. While I sipped my coffee, I pressed my cold toes against his warm foot. This normally-mundane way to warm my feet was a little different today. It also brought calmness to my whole body. Except my heart ached. And I started to cry. I reached San Diego without incident, checked into my hotel, found a Mexican restaurant, and ordered the obligatory tacos. They were fantastic. So was the margarita. The hotel manager joked that i looked like a CIA agent as I arrived with my IKEA duffle bag. He asked to get a photo of me (a bona fide PCT thru-hiker) before I leave. I reluctantly agreed. I'm trying not to hate photos. It's a work-in-progress. Tomorrow I catch a shuttle to the terminus. As one might imagine, I'm a bundle of nerves. *****Disclaimer******** If you decide to read my Hikerfeed, please be aware that you probably won't get the glossy version of my hike that I'll be sending to family and posting on Facebook. You'll likely get the raw misery, when it happens. You'll get way too much information about bodily functions & possibly my anatomy. ....because that is part of the hike. You may even get rambling, incoherent thoughts at times, because that's how my mind works & I won't be editing. So if you feel you can tolerate all that (and you agree to not send a SAR team after me), then read on.
