Day 85

Another zero lol in South Lake Tahoe

Today’s plan was to leave town and hit the trail. That clearly did not happen. Woke up, feeling alright despite last nights war. I immediately started hydrating. After some time, I worked myself up to go to the bathroom which is a real teller if you are hungover as the spins normally hit me when I stand up. While I was spinning and had lack of control of my balance, I felt alright. I was trying to convince myself that since I was sick last night that I shouldn’t be sick this morning but we all know that is not how it works. After some time, I mustered up the energy to sit outside in the cold. I was bundled up wirh long John’s, puffer, and rain gear. It’s July…why is it still so cold. We went to the cafe again, Klara, me, Louisa, Ben, and Marc. Marc is pushing ahead to truckee to go meet up with his girlfriend and surprise her in Reno. Super excited to hopefully meet her soon! So we sent him off after breakfast on the bus for him ti get back on trail. Then it was a sad goodbye to Ben. Like I said in an earlier post but Ben has had a knee problem caused by his IT band which basically makes his right leg useless and in a lot of pain so he’s getting on trail. To save money too he planned on hitching all the way back to Orange County. It was a long sad hug and a photo shoot with me, Ben and Caleb. We have known Ben since mile 100 and we have hiked pretty much the entire trail together since then. I’m writing like he’s dead honestky but he truly was a great glue to our group. He knew how to make each and everyone of us laugh our asses off while also keeping us in check especially me lol (mine’s is). He knew how to entertain whether be through singing or horribly simple jokes. Really hope to keep in touch with him in the future! Hate to see him leave but it made the most sense with amount of pain he was in. It’s funny how going into this experience, I was the most afraid of making friends as it seems so hard. You always worry if someone likes you, or you don’t want to say the wrong things, and you just don’t want to be alone. All those worries but making friends on trail has been an easy experience. They make the trail. I couldn’t do it without the people I’ve met. Just a very cool, intimate, and crazy experience. After Ben left, we headed to the library to charge phones and also do a puzzle. Initially I wasn’t interested but as it progressed I got involved. After, we headed to all you can eat sushi. Now this was an experience. Sat down and ordered our first round of sushi. I’m not the biggest fan of sushi as raw fish does kinda freak me out but I was like fuck it, I wanna look cool in front of these guys so I ate raw fish. It was good I can’t lie. It started to take a turn when they brought out dishes that we had not ordered. We didn’t complain as once a dish hits the table the server can’t take it back so we got FOUR plates of fancy dinner sushi for lunch. We were hyped until we realized we had put in another big order of sushi. The restaurant charge you extra for the sushi you don’t eat. We realized the extra fancy sushi might have been a mistake on our part as we had three large plates of maybe 40+ rolls to go through still and we didn’t know how much extra they charge. Slowly we choked down sushi. So much sushi. I hate the word sushi now. I ate a tempura zucchini and immediately felt sick as fried food can do that to me sometimes. We still had to push on. It was war and we were winning it goddamit. It took me five minutes to chew through one sushi roll and I still had more to go. Caleb and Ben (Ben from Boston) went two for two. At one point though, Rocklicker gets up suddenly wirh fear in his eyes and walks quickly to the bathroom. The men’s was locked so he called over a girl (his words) to stand watch at the women’s bathroom while he puked into the toilet. He’s going to hate that I mentioned this but this is something he will laugh at one day. Hopefully tomorrow. I stood watch while Klara brought over the water for when he emerges from the bathroom. He had apparently gagged and the gag won. He was still a trooper though as he still ate more sushi. The worst part of this experience besides being forced to eat sushi by the end of the lunch was the waiters kept coming wirh more plates. They continued to bring wrong plates to us and we had to turn them down bc absolutely not. I don’t want to look at another piece of sushi. It started out so glorious and quickly turned into warfare. The waiter even tried to convince us we ordered some of the plates but he couldn’t bring us our ticket to prove it. We were proven right eventually but it took some convincing. Eventually, we finished every single last sushi piece like the brave girls we are. If I were to guesstimate how many pieces we ordered or got bc of the mess up I would assume it was in the 100s. I easily ate maybe 30 pieces and there was 6 of us, three men, three women. It was truly brutal. We then got back on the bus to head back to the campsite when Caleb fell asleep so I had a lil photo shoot wirh him. Before that he was smacking klaras he’s sad wirh an empty waterbottle like the freak he is. Klara was fine, it didn’t hurt but it was giving her a giggle which slowly turned to rage lol. Rocklicker got a lil sick again. Turns out he’s not a big fan of sushi either and he hadn’t had it for four years but in his words “taste buds change” so why not? Such a nice guy. Once we got back to camp, Klara and Louisa headed out for a movie while everyone stayed behind. I mainly wanted to organize food (thank you mom!) and also try to find these goddamn fucking holes in my pad. Caleb and I went to water but it was too dirty, too many waves, and too many people to actually try to find the holes. So we headed back to camp, gossiped and then downloaded spaceteam where we yelled out instructions to drive the plane. We did pretty well so we convinced Ben from Boston to join which we got a lil worse but slowly improved. We went to go get ice cream from the liquor store before noticing rocklicker was having a tough time in another way which I won’t get into. Poor guy had a bad day today. We hung around camp planning tomorrow and the trail day following before the girls showed up after their movie. We chatted and planned before heading to bed. Good day but not as good as the past two here in South Lake Tahoe!

Did some work on Caleb’s crusty ass heels. The man has so many deep cracks in his heels causing him pain so we super glued them shut as best we could. I got to feel them though which was crazy. So thick and so crusty.

Ben also made it home officially only from hitches. Someone was headed to LA and he got a ride. Mad impressive
