Day 71
Campsite to campsite lol - 17.5 miles
Total - 934.6 miles
It twas windy last night but I had earplugs in which allowed me to sleep safe and sound. I did have to wake up in the middle of the night to revoke ho my pad as I think rheee is another hole in it. Sierras have not been treating my pad well. Klara had to take a 11 days off trail for altitude sickness and also to road trip with Louisa (how cute!:)) so I promised we would hike with her today as it was her official first pass and she was a bit nervous especially with all the sickness she has had. It was fucking cold today, probably the coldest it’s been on trail. Wind was going all throughout the morning. I was hiking in my puffy and gloves just to keep warm. We stopped for snacks but had to keep going due to the cold. We cruised up the first two uphills of the day and met the guys at lake of a thousand islands (lie) and chilled and ate first lunch. After we tackled our first real pass of the day. It was a breezy climb but a lot of stairs for sure. Klara and I were talking a ton while dad was enjoying his audio book. We were slow and steady. It’s always a fun game to guess which pass we are going over and incredibly we are always wrong. This time didn’t change one bit. For some reason as well, my hip was acting up more than it normally does so I had to keep re-adjusting everything. Finally we made it to the top and had a 4 mile downhill but it was already around 5ish. That worried me but really I had nothing to worry about as we officially entered the Yosemite backcountry. Like usual it was gorgeous with towering mountains but this time wirh one of my favorite sceneries: a meadow in a tree canyon with a windy lazy river going right through it. Something about it just makes me happy. It was very Rocky on the way down slowing us down but the scenes made up for it. The guys were already in their tents when we got there around 8:30 so we quickly set up and made dinner which was crunchy chili. For being off trail for almost two weeks, klara killed it. She was a blast to hike with as she’s so fucking funny even when she’s in pain. She takes the right amount of snacks breaks to keep everyone happy and their bellies full. 10/10 would recommend hiking wirh klara. We did get into camp late and it’s fucking cold (probably the coldest night so far) so I’m not writing too much. I forgot but klara did have a nasty fall but I wasn’t looking. I did get a sexy pic of her on the ground tho.
