August 15, 2024 - Day 90

Written on Aug 16th 2024 at 2:56 AM

A slow morning for a slow day. Last night and this morning, every possible sound kept us up. The road nearby, the ravens this morning, the boats driving by, a raccoon going through our things. It was a good deal that we had such a slow day. There were even some road closures on our walk today so we had to get a hitch around… even less walking. It’s going to be a rude awakening when we get back to the PCT. A many who works as a psychiatrist at the children’s prison system picked us up for a ride around. He had some fascinating stories and seemed generally stoked to be alive. It’s always infectious energy meeting people like that.

We first stopped by Cape Meares Lighthouse - built in 1890, it’s also the shortest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. We got a quick tour from Carolyn and kept on our way. The road walk began. It was about a nine mile ‘hike’ on the road to get to our camp site. We passed by millions of blackberries to fuel us on our walk and we made it to Cape Lookout State Campground. It’s an awesome spot… we’re camped right on the beach and have the place to ourselves. This coastline seems to be a true hidden gem.

Happy swimming…
