August 8, 2024 - Day 83

Written on Aug 9th 2024 at 4:00 AM

Sleep was rough last night. The highway noise was crazy loud but most others slept fine so it must have just been a me thing.

Getting up was a little rough, but once we got moving, the gradual elevation of Oregon treated us well. We walked through shaded forests for some time before stopping for lunch at a spring. We kept pushing, taking breaks here and there to rest our legs and eat some snacks. We decided on a 26 mile day which gave us a bit more time to lounge.

We eventually walked up a ridge line to a view of the mountains beyond. Smoke… lots of it. The smell of forest fires filled our senses the rest of the afternoon. The views were still incredible giving a tangible look to the suns beams shooting over the mountain tops.

A big reunion with Noah, Balls Deep, Anti Gravity and a few others for dinner. It’s awesome to see some familiar faces. Mazama village tomorrow for our resupply and to rest our feet.

Happy trails…
