August 5, 2024 - Day 80

No photos today. It was all business. Resupply, mailing packages, and getting back to trail. Masshole gave us a ride from the Safeway to the post office and then trail. He’s done all three long trails multiple times and has been living out of his van for the past seven years. He’s even done tiling to the inside. I wish I had a photo of the quantity of stickers that were stuck to the top of his van. Dice, Berry, and Candy Crush had to return a car and had some troubles with the return as they popped a tire coming into town so Tiber, Mackenzie and I headed back to Callahans to meet them there for another $10 endless pasta and beer dinner.
It wasn’t until 9 PM that we began walking so it was a quick walk to find our first flat spot to camp. It’s so nice out we’re cowboy camping under the stars next to a shack that says no trespassing. ‘It was too dark to see the sign’. The Milky Way is out in full force and we’ve seen several meteors shoot across the sky. It’s such an amazing experience to see the stars like this.
Happy dreams ahead…
August 6, 2024 - Day 81

We got up this morning having all slept pretty well. The stars were out in full force and even when I woke up for a little, it was amazing to look up at the sheer quantity of white dots floating above us.
After some coffee and breakfast, we got moving by hiking a bit of a road walk back to the next trail head. Oregon miles come a bit faster and easier. The elevation seems to be similar to that of the desert but our bodies have been made stronger.
It’s a hot day but luckily we’re in and out of a green tunnel of shade from tall red woods and pines. The forest floor is also lined with tons of edible berries. Blackberries, thimbleberries, salmon berries, juniper berries, Oregon grapes, and the occasional blueberry. Ubrelated, but hiking with a guy whose trail name is berry has been a big help.
We kept pushing and managed 26 miles by 5:45. We were awarded with some cold beverages and a short walk to our campsite where we’re situated next to Hyatt Reservoir.
Happy trails…
