June 13, 2024 - Day 27
It’s crazy to think we’ve been on trail almost a month. It feels like I’ve just started yet it’s hard to imagine not being on trail now.
We got rolling around 6:30 this morning to gather resupply from the store at the oasis. ‘Farmer John’ was there at 7 AM to open up and we gathered what we thought we needed for our 4 day carry. We had a decent walk along a main road considered part of the trail. Before getting back on the dirt trail, spoons gathered some additional resupply from a Valero down the road.
We started our hike out of town straight up hill. I had reapplied some KT tape and aside from the soreness, my shin performed very well. There are definitely some aches and pains but nothing some rest and stretching shouldn’t be able to fix.
We had a fairly routine day, walking from water source to water source taking breaks when we were hot and eating when we were hungry. We ran into a couple that had just started their trip a couple miles in today along with a guy by the name of ‘Squirell’ who started the hike five days before us.
At one point, as I was walking, a massive swarm of bees flew over me, and I mean massive. The sound alone was deafening and gave me chills through my whole body. I learned when they don’t have a queen bee, they go look for work elsewhere.
The hike today wasn’t anything too strenuous but we ended up walking through an entire valley along ridge lines and down. It was enjoyable aside from the shin and we were thankful for the consistent water sources. Spoons appears to be dealing with some plantar fasciatis so our pace has been slowed as a group. I’m glad as it gives our bodies some time to heal while on the move. We knocked our 25 miles today with our intention being the same tomorrow.
Currently camped next to a fire station. 5 AM alarm. We’ve been sleeping in lately and I’m afraid those days are over. We’re entering a hotter section.
Happy trails…
