May 23, 2024 - Day 6
Slept great last night. Cowboy camped in this protected valley in the desert last night. Felt like out of a western movie only with the lightest and comfiest gear from around the world. Chloe, Scratch, Spoons, Tiber, and myself all camped together and got moving around 7:00 AM this morning. We dry camped, as I’m learning the terminology, which means we had no water at our site. Had to pack in a lot of water last night and still ran dry. Luckily, we hit a water cache around noon, cooled off, and beat the heat under some shade. Met Beans who also thru hiked the AT. Simon, Mike, and Fill Up were also at the cache.
We left around 2PM to hike an additional 11 miles to get to the camp spot we’re at now. About 12 of us total at this spot. Most people I’ve seen at one campsite. Met a lady here who said she hadn’t seen anyone for 7 days… oh and we made it past mile 100. Looking forward to a zero day soon to rest and recoup.
Sleeping next to a water spicket that also serves as a home to about 12 very communicative frogs. May be a tough night ahead with the California frog symphony playing.
