Day 140

Today was a short but fun day. It was a nice easy climb to the summit of Mt. Greylock since I did most of it yesterday. The views were spectacular up there and I’m glad I was able to go inside the memorial. I love the pic of the cabin by the water. It took me about 5 or 6 tries to get a decent pic because of the placement of the sun but by holding my hand up above the lenses seemed to remove the glare that was plaguing my attempts. The hike down towards town wasn’t too bad. Just felt long. I came across a few trail maintainers and I always stop to thank them for what they do. They were kind enough to take a pic with me. It’s good to thank them for their work. They do amazing job on the trail for us. As I got to the school, there were a bunch of fellow hikers I’ve been around lately sitting by 3 coolers. A nice trail angel is keeping it stocked with cold drinks in ice water in one, snacks in another and basic resupply options in another. So nice of her! She came out to ask us if we had any suggestions of something else we’d like to see in magic like that. People along this trail just warm my heart. After that, I started a long road walk off trail and stopped for lunch first. Two beers, a salad, cauliflower bites in habanero BBQ sauce, a spicy burger and fries made me feel all full and happy. I hit the supermarket right next to it and then walked to the motel. It’s old and the room is tiny but it’s all I need. The owner is super cool and he did my laundry for me. It stinks the continental breakfast isn’t until 8am but at least he has offered to drive me back to trail after at no extra charge. I’m sitting in my room waiting for my laundry so I can go have dinner (supposed to be meeting a hiker named Spokes) and listening to a guy banging on a door begging his girl to let him back in the room. Lovely! Hope that quarrel doesn’t go on all night. Ah, the adventures of old motels in tiny towns.
