Day 77

Written on Jul 12th 2022 at 3:37 AM

HEAT WAVE.

What do we do during a heat advisory warning? What we do every day of course! Hike!

We were amongst the minority of hikers who willingly left the town of Burney today to hit trail. The first seven miles were awful. The sunlight boiled our blood and burned our flesh (okay not really but it was REALLY hot in the sun). We took breaks every few shady spots and luckily much of the trail was shady (~50% today).

We finally got to Burney Falls, a historic spot named by Rosevelt, and got ice cream and sodas at the general store. Fast forward two hours later, we finally motivated ourselves to leave and hike 6 more miles to some cool dipping pools (not pictured). These pools were absolutely necessary to our survival. We both submerged our bodies for many minutes to lower our body temperatures back to normal.

On the way, we crossed a dam. Afterward, we hiked four more miles and encountered a long Nope Rope (snake) along the side of the trail. Vee’s heart attack only lasted for a few minutes afterward.

Eventful day! Thankful for ice cream, cold water, and shade.
