Day 137

Written on Jul 10th 2022 at 12:25 AM

Man, there were a LOT of people at the campsite last night. It looks like a lot of people joined the trail at Great Barrington. That explains why a lot of them could barely move in the morning. I was happy to see that this was the day I came across the AT Trail Stand that’s in front of a barn. I bought a soda and some sour patch kids. My favorite! It was an easy 10 miles on trail today. I then hiked off to Upper Goose Pond Cabin. This place is awesome! The caretaker is very nice. The cabin has bunks for 14 people but I still like to stay in my tent. It was looking like I would be the only one in the tent area but the caretaker set up a tent for her friend, which was cool. The problem was then three girls showed up, all going to stay in one tent, set up and argued over it as they’ve never set it up before. Then argued that one of their flashlights had dead batteries. Now, I lay in my tent at 8:50pm and they’re playing Go Fish, and arguing over that as well, of course. It’s going to be a long night. At least I have pancakes to look forward to in the morning. I love that the caretaker here makes pancakes for the hikers. Oh, I forgot to mention how much this short day was worth it just for laying back on the dock and looking over the lake. It almost makes listening to these three girls worth it. Almost. (From what I’ve gathered hearing them talk, this is their first time out here and then they’re hiking back to their car. Obviously they do not know camping etiquette.) UPDATE: At 9:35 PM as their game of Crazy 8s reached a fever pitch, I finally had to yell out of my tent, “I’m sorry, but can you please keep it down. I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning!” It worked! Now for some much needed sleep!
