Day 126

Written on Jun 28th 2022 at 8:43 PM

There wasn’t a post for day 125 because it was a zero day in NYC. So glad for the haircut and for seeing my husband and our good friend, Brandy. Today was a short day. I didn’t hit the trail until 10:48am. Jason and I slept in a bit, ate breakfast at the hotel (I also ate leftovers from the steakhouse the night before) and also had to hit a grocery store on the way so I could resupply. Jason dropped me off at the backside of the zoo (so glad I got that done on Sunday since the zoo is only opened on weekends right now) and then I walked across the Hudson River. I really wanted to experience staying in my tent at a baseball field off of Franciscan Way (Graymoor Spiritual Life Center) so I took my time as it wouldn’t be big miles today and I had plenty of time. Before getting to the ballpark where the Friars have been letting hikers camp there since the 1970s, I stopped at the Appalachian Market to pig out on a dbl cheeseburger and onion rings and pack out a roast beef sandwich for dinner. I also bumped into Hatrick who’s another thru-hiker I’ve been following on Instagram. I got to the ballpark shortly after 3pm and set up my tent. There’s a couple guys already camping here with their dog. They’re just hiking a section for 4 days. They warned me it can get quite weird around here as a lot of homeless people come out to camp in the ball field. We’ll see how the night goes. I’m writing this before having dinner and an waiting for the sun to set so it cools off in my tent. I have a big day planned tomorrow mileage-wise so that should make up for the short day today.
