Day 36

Written on Jun 1st 2022 at 3:56 AM

Got a quick 17 miles in this morning before a resupply. Today’s quick pit stop was in Kernville, via three interesting trail angel hitches. We stuck out our thumbs and hoped for the best—with great success! Our first hitch was with a cattle farmer whose kids competed in a junior rodeo this past weekend. We had a 20 minute stop at his farm and met all his dogs and kids. The second was a retired river rafting guide who had some wild stories. The third was a Native American woman who just needed to drive to help her kids fall asleep and took us the remaining 20 minute drive back to trail.

Sometimes you meet the best people under the weirdest circumstances. We are getting used to the spontaneity.

We hit trail for four more miles at 5:30 pm, anticipating two big days leading up to Kennedy Meadows and to stick with our group. The desert can’t be over soon enough.

Day 35

This day was a thumbs down. 1/10. Would not hike again.

26 miles, felt like climbing the entire day. In sand.

At least the wind kept the temps down. Beach climbs tore up my shins and my morale.

Two fully stocked caches of water were the only saving grace of this day. And one angel had 20 fully charged charging blocks that we used for an hour! We love angels!
