Day 89
Well, it looks like I have a small leak somewhere on my sleep pad. This is the second morning I’ve found it half full of air so, yeah, great. At least I’m not waking up with it completely flat but it is leaking. I’ll have to figure out where that’s happening and hopefully can patch it. Shortly after leaving the shelter, I came across some stones making a 900 with a stone on the shape of a heart. I confirmed I just got the 900 mile mark. I’m now working towards hitting 1,000! Makes me feel better that Truckstop told me I’m right on track for a 6 month completion. That would mean while I’m not at the halfway point, I should be over halfway done time wise. Wildlife today was a cute bunny just sitting on the trail and then Woody Woodpecker kept flying around past me. To damn fast for me to get a picture though. While today was not as hot as the last two days, which were in the mid to high 90s, it felt hotter to me for some reason. Must be all the steep climbs and the fact I pushed another 21 mile day. (20.8 AT miles but there was .55 extra just in how far the side trails to these huts are.) We went from having extreme heat warning for the last 3 days to a severe thunderstorm warning. By the time I got my tent set up, got water and started to make dinner, the rains fell and it did thunder. That only lasted for 20 minutes though. Well that was kinda lame! I think it may rain again early in the morning then on and off and it sounds like tomorrow’s high will be 68 F. That’s a much better temperature! I’m planning an extremely short 12 mile day because I want to get to the Bog Meadows Lodge during their short lunch window, noon to 2:30, so I can try the well known blackberry milkshake. I hear there’s also a blackberry ice cream pie. Hmm. Which one should I try? Maybe both?
