Day 62

Written on May 19th 2022 at 3:14 AM

Well, today was different than any other day on trail thus far. I started hiking bright and early at 2:50am although it wasn’t actually bright when I started. My first time night hiking was a fun experience however I would prefer not to do it again. I got to the Pennsylvania border at 10:50pm thus finishing my 4 state challenge coming in at 47.6 miles by far my longest day. I am now in Pennsylvania and I went through West Virginia and Maryland. The 4 state challenge would have been much much more difficult if mom and the girls had not been there. I met up with them at 4 different gaps along the way and had food and fellowship which was amazing. I hiked through the historical part of Harpers Ferry in the dark so that kinda sucked but it had to be done. It looked like a cool place but I couldn’t see much of it. Mom got me so much food but I’m okay with that. I started out eating a bowl of fruit some meat sticks and a small bag of trail mix. The first gap I came to mom had gotten waffles for me which was a very pleasant surprise. Then the next gap I had a sub and meat sticks, 2 bananas, iced tea, and a oatmeal whoopie pie. Next gap she had for me 2 McDonald’s cheeseburgers and fries. Then the best one of all the last gap they had a Chick-fil-A meal for me the first I’ve had in a long time. So yeah I had a lot of food through it all. This is 2 months after I started so this was my way of celebrating 2 months. When I left for this trip I told my family i would see them again in 2 months and now I can say I was true to my word. I’m home for rest, relaxation, and reinvigoration. I’m taking a zero day then I’ll get back on trail tomorrow.
