Day 34

birthday zero

Woke up the next day feeling pretty burnt. My feet feel like hamburger still and my legs are really stiff. I’ve got my old hiker hobble back and Im feeling like I did on the PCT. The morning is beautiful, the sun is shining, it’s in the low 70’s with a cool breeze. I make myself a cup of coffee and lay in the hammock, listening to music for an hour or so as the town starts to come come alive. Today is our day off but it’s still my birthday, most of our friends are either ahead or behind because of doing the dash so it’s just Two Tone and I in town. We decide to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail after eating some of the last leftover pizza. The Virginia Creeper trail is an old railroad route from the late 1800s that has been turned into a bike path. We walk over to the bike place, pick up out our bikes and catch the shuttle to the top. It is literally downhill the whole way so you don’t have to pedal if you don’t want to. It’s very chill so you can easily ride and talk and even drink a beer if you wanted to. We definitely took some and did. Afterwards we grab a cocktail at the only bar in town and order food from the diner that was about to close. We finish out cocktails and take the food back to the hostel. We eat dinner around a non-lit fireplace. We have a few more beer, and play darts with a few of the other people staying. I won the first game and lost the second but still fun.
