Day 13 - Big Bear
Happy Mother’s Day Karen and Nancy! We love you!!!
Today was bittersweet for me because I decided to take a break from trail to rest my legs and hopefully heal my shin splints. We had a beautiful morning but by mile 8 the pain was more than I could reasonably continue on with, so we returned shared gear into Tim’s pack, I took a Lyft 2 hours away to Big Bear Lake, and Tim continued on. This means that I will have to skip 60 miles of trail in order to save the rest of my hike. A worthy sacrifice.
The morning was gorgeous with low hanging clouds over the valley below us. But the wind storm continued, and trekking through the gusts was mildly dangerous as we descended countless switchbacks to the first water source.
Due to the wind storm, Tim likely had to camp out tonight in a restroom along trail. I found a hostel in big bear and have spent hours researching shin splints. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
