Day 2
Weather was with us today! We started off the morning with a 5:40 start, thinking we would be amongst a crowd of hikers trying to take advantage of the early morning cool temps, but turned out that we were alone on trail for hours until a few caught up to us. We experienced unexpected near freezing temps as we started the morning, which quickly turned into the perfect hiking temperature and we were able to crush the first ten miles by noon, including an early siesta by the river.
The last seven miles were tough. The soles of my feet started to complain around mile 14, as the day’s heat really set in. I’m happy to be learning my limits and look forward to the day my feet and thighs can easily handle 20-25 miles.
A highlight of our day was meeting the “naked man” on trail who frequents these parts of socal. The PCT hikers have mixed feelings about this guy, but overall we found it pretty funny as he was quite good humored. Never a dull moment!
