We got in 8 miles yesterday for a quick slack pack training hike with Muddy!

Five days until we leave Denver, two weeks until we officially hit the trail. Insane!

Gear and food prep is a messy process and always somehow looks the same: take everything you have and spread it out so that you can see all of it at the same time. Then, organize!

We have decided to do the bare minimum for pre-prepared food resupplies, while maximizing flexibility to meet our needs. We’ve prepared one box that we know we will have sent to us, and three resupplies that we can have sent to us when we want them (that will likely have to be supplemented by some food in town at those locations). Vee’s parents are ✨phenomenal✨ for being our home-base for all of our food and gear.

Our gear plan involves some items we know we will need shipped to us, particularly for the Sierras (ice ax, microspikes, bear cans, snow baskets), extra items we may need, and then other items we may want depending on how our hike goes. Items we don’t plan to start with but may want include things like ultra light camp sandals, additional warm layers, or stuff sacks.

We have also prepared bags of “consumables” that we can have sent with gear to restock on our favorite items. Consumables include things like bug spray, sunscreen, medical tape, wipes, medications, and other small things that may be useful like zip-ties.

We would say we are about 90% prepared at this point. 99% of items we need have been purchased, and we are about 80% organized and packed to head to San Francisco in just a few days!
