Day 1

Couldn’t have asked for a better day to start. Had breakfast at the hotel after having a few beers last night. Things got a little rowdy lol. Sweated it out on same decently easy trail. Got a ride to the trailhead from a guy named Ron. Trail angel extraordinaire. Lots of people starting today. 10 tents at our camp spot tonight which is the first of many shelters. Black Gap Shelters. Met Thing 1 and Thing 2 who are also two brothers hiking and also from CA. Nice kids. Met a French guy named Benoit. Cool dude, likes to party and we tried to recruit him to our gang. We taught him some great English words that will be sure to make him hilarious back home.

I had a little extra pep in my step today. Feels so good to be back out here and doing this kind of thing again. I didn’t want to stop at all and to just keep hiking. It’s cool having my little brother with me and my old hiking buddy Anvil. Feels like I already have a trail family.

It’s cold tonight but I’m enjoying it while it lasts. I’m not looking forward to the hot and humid upcoming summer.
