Day 10
I hiked 15.5 miles today in 7 hours. There were some pretty sketchy parts where if I would have stepped to the left or right I would have fallen down the mountain. Some parts where it seemed to go straight down but we survived. It was very cold this morning I could barely get myself to get out of my hammock. Today was the first day where I had thoughts of if I should quit but then at about lunch I came to a gap. A gap is a place where the trail crosses a road of some kind and there’s usually parking there. When I got to the gap there were people there just setting up as I walk down the hill, to give food to hikers. People like that are called trail angels by the hikers. They had ham and cheese sandwiches, drinks, and all kinds of snacks. They were a youth group from a local church and their youth leaders and a retired pastor who had hiked some of the AT. That just lifted me up and made the rest of my day a little easier. It goes to show you that a little kindness can go a long way in someone else’s life.
