Day 20

Written on Mar 14th 2022 at 10:12 PM

Last zero hopefully for a while. I went to Outdoor 76 for stronger carabiners and for replacement rain mitts since I lost one due to pure stupidity trudging thru the snow. They have very friendly, helpful staff and I signed their “Class of ‘22” sign. Then I walked to Currahee Brewery. I was torn between going there first or Lazy Hiker Brewery, which sounds like would be better for me. Since Lazy Hiker is near that grill I went to a couple days ago, I thought I’d do that last. (I didn’t know the Motor City Grill closed at 4pm. What?!?) Anyway, the beer-tender at Currahee was the nicest person I’ve met to date. She was so naturally kind that’s there no way you couldn’t like her. I’m posting picture with her (Danny) and with a fellow thru-hiker, 5-O. Unfortunately, the food truck there that does discounts for hikers was closed indefinitely as they get whatever they need to get together to reopen, so I left there to head to Lazy Hiker. The place should be called Lazy Bartender. The older blonde lady that was behind the bar has an attitude of a stick. She obviously didn’t want to be there. She took my card to hold the tab open but I needed it back to get food from the food truck. I quickly realized they were in the middle of bartender change and as a bartender, I understood what she may be going thru and hoped the younger girl coming in would be more friendlier. Nope! I am a thru-hiker in a brewery with beers named after hiking terms and looks to cater to hikers but had bartenders that treated everyone, not just me with indifferent attitude except for a noticeable friend of theirs sitting at the end of the bar. This place had sour beers. My favorite! With the energy I was getting out of the place, I had one beer and left. I went straight to the food truck and had to shower that woman with love because she was awesome. She felt bad at my treatment in the bar and after talking with her about my story, she ran out of rhe truck in tears to hug me. Said I made her day. Her food made mine. (That and the wonderful treatment by Danny.) Long story short, Lazy Hiker Brewery can kiss my ass. I don’t care what the rest of their beer tastes like. I had a list of 3 others I wanted to try but not while getting a cold shoulder I won’t. I say go get a “Hiker Burger” at the food truck (so good!) and then happily walk all the way to Currahee Brewery for food beers and friendly service. Enough bitching for today. Time to eat my second meal from that food truck I carried to my hotel and off to bed. First thing in the morning, I’m back on trail! (Yes, I took photos at Lazy Hiker Brewery but I don’t even want to post them. I’ll post the amazing burger from the food truck though.)
