Day 15

Written on Mar 9th 2022 at 11:52 PM

I think yesterday’s zero really lit a fire under me. That and the knowledge I was about to cross into another State as well as wanting to get to Franklin, NC before the 13th when snow is forecasted with a temperature low of 18 and possibly 15. I really don’t want to be out in temps that low. With that, I waited for the rains to slow this morning, hitting the trail shortly after 9am. It’s been wet all day and very foggy. Everything is wet. I’m writing this in my tent all bundled up and there’s moisture building up on everything. That’s a bit concerning as all my warm layers and quilt are down. If they get soaking wet, they lose ALL warming properties. Fingers crossed! It isn’t supposed to reach freezing but it’s still going to be very cold. Okay, let’s backtrack. I walked 12.78 miles today. It took me 8 hrs and 3 minutes with breaks. I climbed 4,652 feet and descended 2,490 feet. There were some MASSIVE climbs today. I made it from Dick’s Creek Gap to Muskrat Shelter. What I’m most proud about is making it into North Carolina. Going to bed now and hoping to stay dry enough in this tent to stay warm. The fog is so thick, there’s no getting out of the wet.
