Day 65
June 16, 2021 PCT 1112.8 to 1138.6
PCT miles today - 25.8
We were up at 4 AM and tried to be as quiet as possible so we wouldn’t wake Lady. Excited about getting home and hugging our sweet pets, so we wanted to make some miles. We had our first glimpse of Lake Tahoe and hiked behind Alpine and Squaw ski resorts. The trail is high near the ridge crest by Alpine Meadows so views were really nice. It drops down low behind Squaw Valley, so not as panoramic but lovely fields of wildflowers. Guess those Squaw Valley patrons don’t care to see hiker trash (smelly dirty hungry PCT hikers). This is our day hike area, so we know it well.
Set up camp near the start of the America River. Good flow, but small. No rafting possible in this section! Rick drank water without filtering (delicious and he remains well). Rick washed his feet in this little stream and then claimed to have temporarily stopped the flow of the mighty American River.
So many flowers! ‘Wizard of Oz’ fields of yellow, purple and pink flowers and lots of the rare red snow flowers. Haven’t seen any PCT hikers today except for Wrong Turn and her fellow hiker.
