Day 62

Written on Jun 13th 2021 at 7:00 AM

June 13, 2021 PCT Mile 1052.0 to 1072.0

PCT miles today - 20

We were treated to views of gorgeous mountain lakes at every turn today. Great hiking - loved it! We were once again reminded of how different the trail looks when hiking in the opposite direction. We have hiked this area north to south, but hiking northbound it is all new. Beautiful.

Long day and running low on food (again). Getting creative with oatmeal. Rick adds oatmeal to freeze dried dinners with no regard for taste, but says it’s ‘okay’. Fuel only. Camped at a nice flat site below Carson Pass. This area has spectacular open sweeping meadows above tree line. Wind kept mosquitoes at bay - for now. One can feel the energy in the atmosphere around here. It feels like the place where big black clouds are born before moving on.

Only 18 miles tomorrow to get to Hwy 50 (Echo Summit) to meet up with Chris’ brother Mark. Heading into South Lake Tahoe for resupply and back on trail the next day. First we have to get through the few last big snowfields on the north side of Carson Pass. Oddly, we saw no PCT hikers today.
