Day 58
June 9, 2021 PCT Mile 982.3 to 1002.5
PCT miles today - 20.2
Passed the 1000 mile marker!! Lovely day of hiking and then the weather changed very quickly. Our plan was to set up camp just below Sonora pass for the hike tomorrow because the pass is covered in snow, but we didn’t quite make it. Slow going. We hope to get over pass early morning when snow is hard.
It snowed, but Rick kept hiking in his shorts. Very cold (~ 10 degrees). Camped by the river and bridge. Got the tent up and snow began 5 minutes later. Ate in tent. Will get up at 4:00 AM to get to the pass early morning.
At around 7 or 8 PM we heard someone outside in the snow asking if we were alright (yes) then strange sounds trailing off in the distance. Turns out it was Blue coming down late from the pass at the end of Stubblefield Canyon. He said the whole scene was so pretty he just started singing Xmas carols. Funny and happy guy.
