Day 57

June 8, 2021 PCT Mile 962.1 to 982.3

PCT miles today - 20.2

Long day with 6000 ft of climbing and 5000 ft descent. Still managed slightly more than 20 miles - barely. Spectacular scenery kept us moving. Massive fir and juniper trees and waterfalls at each turn. Saw Blue and Clint. They were headed to lovely Benson Lake to hang out and have lunch. We hiked over Benson Pass and Seavey Pass and had a couple of challenging (for Chris) roaring river crossings. Made it across safely, with only one unintentional dip. Rick just hop, skipped and jumped between boulders over rushing water 6 feet below.
Met Fast Food (hikes fast, eats a lot of food - we can attest to both). He is from Kennebunkport, Maine so he and Rick chatted about that for a few minutes. He was sitting under a tree and alternating his spoon between jars of Nutella and peanut butter.

Finally made it down to the campsite by the creek - mosquitoes were out and hungry. Met Grandpa (nice young man from the Netherlands). He picked some Spring onions by the creek to add to his dinner while being eaten up by mosquitoes. Said ‘no’ to offer of spray and ‘after bite’. Tough.
