Day 24 220 to Mission Creek Camp

Written on May 19th 2021 at 3:22 AM

Ended up doing 19 miles today! Pretty stoked about. It was such a slog and so hot today, like holy crap. It wasn’t bad tho. And my feet held up!

Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and coyotes in the distance. I didn’t sleep very well at all, basically waking up every hour for some reason. So 5 came rolling around and it was go time. In half a mile was the Whitewater River, which I kicked myself for not camping next to. For some reason I was just so tired and couldn’t go anymore.

Ate my breakfast there and filtered water for the next few miles. Person after I person I met was literally an older dude so I kept telling myself I must be in the sad bubble. I met a group around my age after almost walking over them because they were hidden in the bushes, Anna, Grade 8 and two Canadians.

I kept walking into the heat. I was also very proud of myself for stopping every hour and changing my socks. I was even able to soak my feet because we walked through a creek bed for most of the day. I lost the trail a few times, but eventually you find it again.

It was a really long and hot day, but so stoked to be out here. I was going pretty slow towards the end so I plugged in some music and literally danced and sang all down the trail. Made it to camp with a few new folks. Hopefully going to do 20 tomorrow and short day to Big Bear. Still not sure if I’m going to stay in the town or not.
