Day 25
Fire station (436.1) to KOA (444.3 resupply) then on to Agua Dolce 454.3
PCT Miles 18.2
We hiked the short 8.2 miles into the Acton KOA for resupply intent on showering, doing laundry and camping. Picked up resupply and met Magnet again. Happy to be at a resupply stop, she performed a dance for us to explain the origin of her name (very cute!). We finished all on our to-do list and Magnet offered to take a bounce box (send extra supplies home for the northern CA section) to the post office in Acton because she was headed over there. Big help. It was only 2:00, so we packed everything back up and headed to Agua Dolce about 10 miles further.
End-of-day hiking syndrome kicked in at about 5:00 where one mile feels like 10, until we entered the lovely Vasquez Rocks area. Fascinating geological formations popping up in the middle of the desert. That and skirting poison oak kept us alert.
Made our way to Sweetwater Cafe in Agua Dolce where Rick had bunless burger and Chris ordered a salad. She regretted her dinner selection as we were going to bed...still hungry. The staff at the restaurant were very helpful and friendly. Directed us to pitch our tent across the street in an open field by a parking lot and told us where the hose was for water. As we were leaving, our waitress said, ‘oh, and there will be live music tonight.’ Yes, there certainly was - and with every 3rd or 4th note out of tune. Live music (all 1960 classics) and a wedding reception with its own special version of live music lasted until about 1 AM and was 400 feet away.
Not much sleep!
