Day 23

Written on May 5th 2021 at 2:56 PM

PCT Miles around closure. 363.4 to 374 and 403 to 411.8 PCT miles 18.6 miles.

Hiked back to road and got ride around closed section from Vincent Gap to Three Points.

Tony was on ‘Tony Time’, so late to pick us up, but such a funny guy was just fine. Tony arrived and drove us and another couple to Three Points trailhead where the PCT trail resumes. There were 6-8 other hikers being dropped off - knew a few. It’s a long 1.5 hour car detour to miss 20 miles of trail. The Bobcat fire devastation was overwhelming. Impressed that houses were saved at all. Saw many standing with charred remains of trees, decking, outdoor patios surrounding the homes, but zero damage to home.

We arrived about 3:30 PM at Three Points trailhead and hoped to get another 12 miles in, but we saw rattlesnakes and so much of the dreaded Poodle Dog Bush it slowed our progress. We were vigilant about steering clear, but it was overgrown into the trail making skirting it a delicate maneuver.

Made it to a nice campsite high up on a saddle by dusk after refilling water.
