Day 22 - Wrightwood
Zero
Chris cough has lessened some, but a day to get strength back was needed. Pretty hard for her to hike if she can’t take a deep breath, especially at high elevation. She is anxious to get back to the trail now.
We got to know Tony pretty well. He’s in a band (Lipstick Red) with his wife and daughter. He used to be quite the avid rock climber having climbed all over the world and with many of the top climbers Rick used to read about back in the day. He still boulders. He’s bouldering after he drops us back up the trail today. After talking with other hikers and flipping/flopping about the road walk, we all agreed to bypass a bit of the worst section (performance cars/not much shoulder, blind curves). This PCT closure is due to the 2020 ‘Bobcat Fire’. There are several other road walk sections coming up we can still enjoy...
Tony is in the process of building some pretty sweet hiker accommodations right at the bottom of the Acorn Trail where it hits asphalt. It will be a top PCT hiker attraction when completed.
