Day 49 - After three days in the desert sun (plus 2 more in the desert snow), I was looking at a hotel bed

Written on Apr 30th 2021 at 7:00 AM

Miles 628.4 to 652.1

I woke up this morning to the most amazing sunrise yet on trail... and bonus the air was warm! The comment on our tentsite from Juice read “gnarly sunrise”... and he was 100% dead on. Photos will never do it justice... but the colors painted across the sky were a masterpiece.

Up from watching the sunrise and packed up early thanks to the warm air - we headed out - we had altered our plan to get to town on Saturday, instead of Friday because of our ice storm fiasco on Monday.... but as the day went on and the temps were again nearing 100... I began formulating a plan to make it to town tonight. I think the lure of a shower and bed always calls me to do bigger miles and push myself a little further.

I arrived at McIver’s cabin around 3:30 to find Hound... I told him I was going to make it to Walker Pass for a 23.7 day... he got on board with the idea ... by my calculations after a long break in the shade during the high afternoon heat... we could make it by 8:30...

We made it by 7:35 and amazing trail angel pancakes came to pick us up and brought us to our hotel and to the grocery store for some nibbles.

The shower may have been the most amazing of my life.
