Day 16

Written on Apr 28th 2021 at 8:34 PM

Zero in gorgeous Big Bear Lake, CA. Four days of no AT&T coverage until we approached HWY 18. ?

We have been impressed and surprised by the wild and beautiful mountains in Southern California. We did not look at the elevation map of the PCT before starting because it can be a bit intimidating, so hiking through this area has been a treat. Unexpected beauty and ruggedness. We have heard the area described as a half a dozen mountain ranges surrounded and isolated by an ocean of desert - an accurate description.

Quiet here in Big Bear during the shoulder season before summer crowds appear. Easy walking distance to everything we need. Rick got a new pair of sunglasses - yellow lenses. Hmmm - curious. Busy day of logistics: getting resupply mailings, doing laundry, swap out old clothing or clothes that are not working, figuring out what food needed for next section, mailing home unwanted stuff, and Rick eating ALL DAY! Ready to get back on the trail in the morning.
