Benton Mackaye Trail

The Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT) is an approximately 288-mile footpath through the southern Appalachians, beginning at Springer Mountain in Georgia and ending near Big Creek/Davenport Gap in the Great Smoky Mountains area. It's known for a more remote, wilderness-forward experience compared to the nearby Appalachian Trail, while still passing classic ridgelines, forests, and mountain terrain.
