51 years young and recently retired from 30 years in emergency services, and 9 years in the Marine Corps. After spending that time seeing first hand what man is capable off, i have decided that the rest of my time on this rock will be spent in and around nature observing the best this world has to offer. Thru hiking the AT has been a dream of mine for most of my adult life. And now is the time. Looking forward to meeting more of this years class.

Day 6
4 days 20.2 miles with the approach trail and i slip on a wet rock with muddy boots. Spent yesterday in a hotel with ice and ibuprofen. Had already been advised to get off trail from Wednesday till the following Monday due to forecasted weather of below freezing temps and strong chances of severe thunderstorms. Last night i made the call to get checked and reevaluate, So am back home with a hopefully projected 2.0 restart no later than the end of April. Got to play the cards your dealt in life. Throughly enjoyed my short experience, and hoping for a quick return.
Day 3
Started at the lodge and made it to Black Gap shelter around 3. Met some nice folks that i will see down the trail. Slow and Steady one mile at a time.
Day 2
Started on the approach trail today. Got some miles in and taking it slow and steady till i get my trail legs. Totally in my element out here.
Day 1
Made it safely to the lodge at Amicalola, Will step off Wednesday morning. Looking forward to meeting this years thru hiker class. Early Bird in flight.

Well unfortunately Mr. Murphy reared his ugly F..king head today. My bank (MARINE FEDERAL) screwed me over at the vehicle rental counter. Have to straighten this out in the am. But now my step off date has been pushed back a week due to no vehicles being available to rent till then. Really hoping the lodge at Amicalola doesnt shaft me as well with the late cancelation for tommorrow even though i already booked a room for next monday . So Yeah, Its been a really f...ked up afternoon.
