Really enjoyed Cascade Locks. It's much better than most Washington towns and has good food, a decent campground (but being next to the train tracks sucks!), and a small grocery store that you can get a good resupply from. The Ale House and Thunder Island brewing both give free beer to hikers. It's also really easy to get to Portland from here (would also recommend if you can find others to room with and have the time). The bus is only $5.
