Today was a great day. We hiked down from our campsite on the bald and hitched a ride to Buena Vista. Last night the wind was so intense that I could barely sleep. I had to put ear plugs in so I could fall asleep. I was actually worried that my tent was going to collapse from the wind. It was bending and whipping and flattening all night long. Thankfully it stayed standing. In the middle of the night I got out of my tent to pee and I saw the starts more vivid than I ever have before. I could clearly see the milky way and saw multiple shooting stars in just the few minutes I was out there.
The morning was very cold and windy so we got an early start. At the gap we met a girl without a trail name who had all her gear laid out waiting for a hitch too. We ended up getting a ride fairly quick. Once in town, Sarah and I did our laundry and made a few phone calls. Then we ravenously ate massive calzones and split a quart of ice cream from a local Amish store. While we were at the Amish store we met Danielle who was our cashier. She was an employee there who seemed enthusiastic about our hike. She offered us a ride since she was off work soon. She ended up taking us to her house and showing us her pet turtle and said that we could stay if her husband was okay with it. He wasn't off work yet so we waited till he was. Danielle was so nice that in just the short time we spent together we felt like close friends.
After all, it was best for us to head back to the trail and so Danielle took us to the Food Lion for resupply and then we headed back to the trail. At the trailhead I saw Twigs who I hadn't seen in a while and we caught up for a while before we headed in opposite directions. I think I had far too much dairy today because I feel extremely constipated. I think I'll cut back next time. Tomorrow my friend Eli comes out to hike with us for a week. I'm so excited!
