Idyllwild to Apache peak - 17.3 miles
Total - 169.2
I scheduled a trail angel to come pick us up in the morning around 8:15ish so we got to the beginning of the trail around 9 and started walking. The original plan was to do 10 miles but since the post office in cabazon isn’t open on the weekends I knew I had to push so I could get there by Friday so I let everyone know. The first miles were not bad at all. Getting my trail legs back but my pack was HELLA heavy with 5 days of food and 3 liters of water. We cruised until we hit the 10 mile where water was and ate lunch with a bunch of girls who were hilarious before we got water. Water was a two mile round trip down the mountain which fucking ass coming back up. The stream was barely going so idk how later people are gonna get water. We are on the San Jacinto part of the trail which is our first big climb and boy did we feel it after that water. Shit was ass. We climbed 5000 feet today and it felt like the last 6.5 miles is where we gained all of it. Literally the worst part of this entire trip so far but we finally made it to Apache peak where we planned to camp. Oh I forgot everyone beside Christian decided to push on. I tried to convince people to do 14 more but that was a stupid thought as we started late and the I didn’t realize how much atupid elevation gain we were gonna do. Anyway, Apache peak is gorgeous besides the goddamn wind again. Clouds were rolling over the top of us, the sunset was the prettiest I’ve seen on trail. Which isn’t saying much as I haven’t had a headlamp as mine broke once I got on trail so I haven’t been out of the tent later than 7pm. I had the most beautiful shit spot with the sunset beaming down on me. Wish I could upload pictures but this thing ain’t working. I planned on cowboy camping as the wind was horrible, but then it died down so I set my tent up with no rain fly. Caleb’s tent poles snapped like a week ago so he had to get a whole new tent because of the wind so now I’m nervous so I put on my rain fly just in case with some guy lines? Or is it guide lines? Idk bc guy lines makes no sense but Scotty says it’s guy lines. Anyways now my tent is shaking horribly and I know I will get no sleep. So yay! Hopefully the guy line will work. I will let y’all know in the morning! Tomorrow I’m trying to push big but the elevation is horrible so we will see.
