Day 55

Day 55

Mosey's 2025 AT Thru-Hike

Day 55. 11.8 miles to Kincora Hiking Hostel. Another hot day, feels like we skipped spring. We got packed up and April dropped us off at the trailhead. The heat and long slow inclines made me pretty slow. I had a good time chatting with Brian, originally from Comfort, Tx and Dr Quinn and Optimist, a couple who now live in NH about 20 mins from the trail. Got down the mountain and Sourpatch and Steady were waiting for me and we set off to Kincora. Bob Peoples is a legendary trail maintainer for the last 30+ years and is in the ATC hall of fame. He is a great guy, super chatty and we learned lots of things, like that sometimes where a switchback is was chosen because there was a rattlesnake where it originally was, and if there’s no view the trail goes around the mountain (my fave), and that if a crew of women were doing trail work the stairs are usually shorter. His hostel has hosted 25,000 hikers so we stayed the night. He regular cares for feral cats and has possums, raccoons and bears visit often. There’s a ton of history and nostalgia with pics of successful hikers from the last 30 years of the hostel.
