What a great, relaxing day while still getting some hiking done. I knew I wanted to stop at Paul Wolfe Shelter today and go into town in the morning so with only 10.8 on the agenda, I stopped for lunch with a view; on top of a cliff overlook and lots of sun. While sitting there, a guy named Rainman showed up and said he just camped at Devil’s Backbone Brewery and pulled out a big sandwich that looked like roast beef and then a couple beers. He hands me an Imperial IPA and I’m all over that. Made for a nice lunch. Wildlife wise, I saw a deer that didn’t seem to care I was there and a tiny ring-neck snake that’s apparently is a very rare thing to see during the day. I decided I could do a .2 side trail to go see Humpback Rock but I made a wrong turn and ended up going much further down a steep incline and I realized I was halfway to the parking lot. Ugh! Why did I do that to myself! I had to haul all the way back up to find out I was 800 ft from the view before I made the wrong turn and walked down almost half a mile. Because there’s a parking lot, Humpback Rock was full of people (muggles) sitting on top so I took what pictures I could and took off. I got to the shelter before 4pm and hung out with Bob, Viking Man, Wilson and Brownie. (Wilson said Brownie was whining when she got out of the tent and he thinks it’s because I wasn’t there. Aww! I love dogs! He was so happy to see me when I arrived at the shelter too. Just about jumped in my lap and covered me with kisses. I got my tent all set up, had dinner, took a creek style sponge bath, trimmed my nails, finishing this journal and then off to bed. Small 4.7 easy miles to Rock Fish Gap where I’m getting picked up and going into Waynesboro.
