16 miles
Today was a great day. The hiking is getting tougher but I’m feeling great. I’m pushing my body harder and harder and it’s responding well. The climbs are getting longer and more frequent but the weather is getting better. Today was actually hot for a change. I’m sweating so much especially with the humidity. I think I drank 5 liters of water today and my piss is still yellow. This isn’t even the worse that it will get. I don’t care though. I’m having the time of my life out here. Spring has sprung and the flowers are starting to bloom. Today the trail was lined on both sides with Virginia Spring Beauties, Violets, and Star Chickweed. Really made for a nice asthetic as we were hiking a gentle downhill into camp during golden hour.
We’ve been putting in a lot more miles than people who started around the same date as us. We’ve caught up to a bubble of hikers and there’s just so many people wherever you go. I imagine there was at least 30+ at the hotel last night and probably around the same camped at spots within a few miles. Things will die off soon though. So many people quit in the first 200 miles and even more by the halfway point. It’s nice for now but it will eventually get old.
Anyways, I’m cowboy camping again. It really is the best. The sky is clear and plenty of stars out to enjoy. Rumors of a meteor shower tonight but I’ll keep you posted.
