Day 94

Day 94

Gold Rush Jun 8th, 2021
Fir Wave's 2021 AT Thru-Hike

6/8/21 For some reason I didn’t sleep well in the shelter last night. We got up early and hiked 7.4 miles to reach Elkwallow Wayaide. Everyone is talked about there blackberry milkshakes so I ordered one along with a hamburger and fries and a beer and a Diet Coke as well as a resupplying. On the way there saw several deer, They aren’t afraid of people as it’s a national park and there’s no hunting. Also there was a box turtle ride on the trail which I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I recalled summer camp the bunks would collect them and have races. Clearly this is unethical as the turtles shouldn’t be moved from their home territory. Was planning on going farther but it was so hot and humid that I stopped at the last shelter in Shenandoah national park the gravel Springs height which was nice. There there was a woman that looked quite familiar and in fact I had seen her last year in the white mountains at GyotteShelter when she was doing her flip-flop North. She got to Mount Katahdin last summer and just started her flip-flop south in Harpers Ferry going to Springer Mountain Georgia. She did remember me as well. Made plans to hike out of Shenandoah national park going 13.6 miles to AT mile 972.0 and we picked up and taken to the Hostel called stumble in where I can fully resupply do laundry and take a shower. The plant would then be ultimately to hike to Harpers Ferry where I would meet my father and Sandi on Sunday at mile 1025.

Cool tree photo. What do you know about the turtle? Hope you’re finding a groove without Piper :-).
